Post: Weekend Preview – 29th/30th January

Clydesdale Western 1s will head into the final weekend of the 2021-22 Indoor season with the knowledge that three wins from their final three games will clinch the Women’s National Indoor Division One title.

The reduction of COVID-19 restrictions now means that indoor hockey can return to Scotland. But with limited time available in the calendar, Scottish Hockey has taken the decision to complete all men’s and women’s national indoor league as early as the conclusion of one round of games against each opponent in a team’s respective league.

With that, the L1s, having played and won their first four fixtures, only have three games remaining, taking place on Sunday at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth. First up for Head Coach Wendy Justice’s side are Edinburgh University 1s from 11.05am.

Then from 2.45pm, ‘Dale Western 1s are up against league leaders Watsonians 1s from 2.45pm. The Myreside team have won five of their first five games to keep themselves three points above the Titwood girls. The L1s will then be the final game of the day at Bell’s with a 4.35pm pushback against Grove Menzieshill 1s.

The L2s are also in action at Bell’s in the Coaching Hall on Sunday with a dead rubber clash in Women’s National Indoor Division Two against CALA Edinburgh 1s (10,10am). On Saturday, the M1s face Inverleith 2s from 10.25am in an equally insignificant match up in Men’s National Indoor Division Two at Dundee International Sports Centre.

Four outdoor games in the West District leagues taking place involve Clydesdale & Clydesdale Western teams this weekend.

On Saturday from 2.00pm, the M3s play Hillhead 3s in Men’s West District Division One at the High School of Glasgow. And at the same time, less than a mile away, the L5s take on Glasgow Accies 1s at Upper Windyedge in Women’s West District Division Two.

At 2.30pm, the L4s are at Glasgow Green to face Rottenrow BlueSox 1s in Women’s West District Division One. The final outdoor game of the weekend sees the M5s Development travel south against Dumfries 2s from noon at King George V Playing Fields in Men’s West District Division Three.
