A number of big games for our Men’s and Women’s teams this Saturday, which includes two inter-club league games.
L1s vs. GHK 1s (1.30pm, A); L2s vs. L3s (4.30pm, H); L4s vs. Giffnock 1s (3.00pm, H); L5s vs. L6s (3.00pm, H – HGS)
M1s vs. Uddingston 1s (3.00pm, A); M2s vs. Edinburgh University 2s (1.30pm, H); M3s vs. Kelburne 3s (1.30pm, A); M4s vs. Helensburgh 2s (12.00 noon, H); M5s vs. Ayr 2s (1.00pm, A)
Clydesdale Western 1st XI will hope to keep on Edinburgh University’s and Grove Menzieshill’s coat tails in the race to be champions of Women’s National Division One this season. On Saturday, the L1s play away to GHK at Old Anniesland, 1.30pm pushback. ‘Dale Western convincingly won 7-0 the last time the two sides met back in October. And with Uni playing Grove, this could be crucial weekend in the L1s season in their bid to close the gap on the two teams above them.
Clydesdale Men’s 1st XI have a crucial game in their season when they face Uddingston at Bothwell Castle Policies from 3.00pm. Uddingston’s big 6-3 win against Western Wildcats a fortnight ago saw them jump above ‘Dale – who lost 2-1 to Kelburne – and Hillhead in the Men’s National Division One table. And with only three points separating 6th and 9th place, this game and others around them will be vital to either team’s season. When the two sides met in October at Titwood, Clydesdale clawed back a halftime goal deficit through captain Patrick Lonergan and a last minute winner from Ciaran Crawford.
In the rest of Saturday’s games, the M2s hope to keep up their title challenge in Men’s Regional Division One as they take on Edinburgh University 2s, 1.30pm pushback at home. Uni 2s have proven to be difficult opposition for a lot of teams this season, as seen in the two sides 2-2 draw back in October at Peffermill. The L2s, similar to the M2s, are hoping to be champions of Women’s Championship Division One come the end of the season. And they lock horns with the L3s (4.30pm PB), who they beat 9-0 in their previous meeting. The M3s are hoping to mount a late charge towards winning the West District Division One league, especially after their win against league leaders Uddingston two weeks ago. However, with games running out and still three points behind Uddy, they can not afford any more slip ups and also hope results go their way. They take on Kelburne 3s at Glasgow Green from 1.30pm – it was a 1-1 draw at Titwood in late October between the two teams. The M4s hope to boost their promotion chances from Men’s West District Division Three when they play at home to Helensburgh 2s, 12.00 noon PB. The M5s play away to Ayr 2s at Wellington School from 1.00pm. The L4s, who have won eight of their last ten games taking them from second bottom to 4th in Women’s West District Division One, play at home to bottom side Giffnock 1s at home, 3.00pm PB. The L5s versus L6s from 3.00pm at Hutchesons’ Grammar School completes Saturday’s round of games. The L5s are five points clear in their hopes to promote to Women’s West District Division Two. In stark contrast, the L6s sit one point above the relegation places.
Good luck to all of our teams this weekend!
