Post: Mixed bag for M1s & L1s triple header – Weekend Review – 14th/15th December

Clydesdale Men’s 1s triple fixture weekend in Men’s National Indoor Division One at Bell’s Sports Centre on Saturday featured a loss to Western Wildcats 1s and Uddingston 1s – but bounced back with a stunning comeback win against Inverleith 1s.

The M1s first game against Western Wildcats quite simply went the Milngavie’s side way. By half time, Wildcats were 4-1 up, with Chris McFadden being ‘Dale’s only goalscorer up to that point. Struan Walker got two more in the second half, but the Titwood side’s opponents scored the same amount as they did in the opening 20 minutes to run out 8-3 winners.

McFadden got another in the second match against Uddingston, and there was a goal each for Ryan Cummins and Andy McAllan. But these goals could not save the Titwood boys from a 4-3 defeat.

Clydesdale registered their first win of the indoor campaign against MNIL 1 leaders Inverleith. It was heading to a ‘Dale defeat, as Inverleith – arguably the favourites for the indoor crown this season – were 5-1 up early into the second period. Andrew Allan registered a goal for the Clydesdale cause. But another from Allan, McFadden, two from Walker and another from David Nairn sandwiched in between a sixth Inverleith goal saw the scoreline level. But there was enough time for Walker to score his hattrick goal and give the M1s a stunning 7-6 win.

Clydesdale Men’s 2s got their Men’s Indoor Regional Division 1 campaign underway last Saturday with a win and a loss at Bell’s Coaching Hall.

The M2s were in emphatic form in their opening game, sweeping aside Granite City Wanderers with a 16-5 scoreline. But game two ended in an 11-8 defeat to Dunfermline Carnegie 2s.

Clydesdale Western 1s took six out of a possible nine points in their three games in Women’s National Indoor Division One at Bell’s Sports Centre on Sunday.

The L1s swept aside Grange EL 1s with ease, winning 12-0. Margery Justice scored four, whilst there were two each from Millie Steiger, Jen Eadie and Laura Paul.

‘Dale Western sadly lost their clash with Dundee Wanderers 1s in their second game. Billed as the stand out game, the two sides have been champions of Women’s Scottish Indoor the past two seasons. But it was Wanderers who took three points with a 4-0 win.

The Titwood girls bounced back from the loss, but were made to do it the hard way against Inverleith 1s. A goal down, the L1s rallied back with three goals in a four minute spell from Kayleigh Justice, Eadie and Steiger. In the second half, Eadie grabbed a second, Paul added her name to the scoreline and there was enough time for Bronwyn Shields to score to seal a 6-1 win.

Clydesdale Western 2s had a difficult indoor weekend as they suffered two defeats at Dundee International Sports Centre.

The L2s narrowly lost out 2-1 to Dundee Wanderers 2s, but were convincingly beaten 6-3 by CALA Edinburgh 1s.
