Post: L1s secure double wins, M1s suffer triple loss – Weekend Review – 15th/16th December

Saturday 15th December

M1s 0-5 Grove Menzieshill 1s; M1s 2-6 Western Wildcats 1s; M1s 5-9 Grange 1s

Clydesdale Men’s 1s triple header of indoor hockey ended with three chastening defeats meaning there were no points returned in their second round of matches in Men’s National Indoor Division One.

The M1s would have been hoping to build on their start to the indoor season which featured a win in their very first match against Kelburne.  What followed on Saturday at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth, however, was three tricky matches beginning with a 5-0 defeat to Grove Menzieshill 1s.  The day did not get much better as the ‘Dale were beaten 6-2 by Western Wildcats 1s, before losing 9-5 to Grange 1s in the final game of the day.

The results leaves Clydesdale 1s sitting seventh in an eight team league, three points ahead of Kelburne.

M2s 10-0 CALA Edinburgh 1s; M2s 6-6 Glasgow University 1s

Clydesdale Men’s 2nd XI rescued a point against Glasgow University 1s after surviving a stirring fightback at Bell’s Sports Centre.

The M2s were scheduled to play CALA Edinburgh 1s in their first game of the weekend in Men’s Indoor Regional Division One, but were awarded a concession from their opponents.  This was due to concerns over travelling with the difficult weather conditions that took place on Saturday.

‘Dale 2s played Glasgow Uni 1s earlier than scheduled, which saw an entertaining game finish 6-6.  This was after the M2s found themselves 4-0 up at half time.  The students fought back to lead twice in the second half, but Jamie Johnston’s finish that deflected up from a GU stick gave both sides an equal share of the spoils.  The point gives the M2s ten points out of a possible twelve in their start to the indoor season.

Sunday 15th December

L1s 9-2 Grange EL 1s; L1s 8-0 Edinburgh University 1s

Clydesdale Western 1s bounced back from a difficult start to Women’s Indoor National Division One by sealing two thumping wins at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth.

Picking up four out of a possible nine points, the L1s would have been keen to get their season moving to keep up the pace at the top end of Women’s NL 1.  And they duly delivered by dishing out 9-2 and 8-0 hammerings to Grange EL 1s and Edinburgh University 1s respectively.

The wins sees ‘Dale Western 1s move up to second in the league, three points behind league leaders, Dundee Wanderers 1s.

L2s 1-8 Western Wildcats 1s; L2s 2-2 Grove Menzieshill 2s

Clydesdale Western’s 2s picked up a hard earned point against Grove Menzieshill 2s after suffering a heavy defeat in their weekend of Women’s Indoor National Division Two games at Dundee International Sports Centre.

Following impressive wins in their first weekend of games, the L2s came unstuck against Western Wildcats 1st XI to lose 8-1 in their first game on Sunday at DISC.  The L2s did recover, however, to draw 2-2 against Grove Menzieshill 2s to avoid returning to Glasgow empty handed.

The results ‘Dale Western 2s third in Women’s NL 2 with seven points out of a possible twelve.
