Post: Girls finish 5th in Euro Championship Challenge I

Clydesdale Western Girls finished in fifth place in Catania with two draws and a loss. Friday saw them draw 1-1 with domestic rivals Grove Menzieshill. Clydesdale Western equalising through a field goal from player coach Cat Semple with 3 minutes to go.

Saturday saw a real dig dong game vs Belgium’s Royal Wellington. Anna Mae Morton put Clydesdale Western in front but the girls finished the half 1-2 down as Wellington came back into it. Clydesdale Western responded superbly in the second half and a penalty corner from Helen Walker and another field goal from Anna Mae Morton put the girls back in front but a penalty stroke conceded after 52 minutes allowed the Belgiums to square the game.

On Sunday Clydesale Western found HC Ritm-Azot Grodno too strong and went down 5-0. The girls finished third in their group but were the only side to take points from Royal Wellington!

The girls will have benefited greatly from the experience and with such a young team this will be great for the future.
