29th August 2011 – see pictures below – Meeting with Contrctors on Tuesday 30th August to discuss handover of pitch
Work began on Thursday 3rd June to lift the old pitch surface. With all the old surface having been lifted other tasks could commence. The work on the borehole was completed with a successful strike – water, not oil…. Preparation work on the irrigation around the pitch area has been completed and the Pop-Up water cannons installed. The placing of the gripper system for the pitch surface has been completed with replacement of the bitmac surface completed. Repairs to the shock pad have completed, at last! All strips of carpet have been placed on the pitch, now all glued and fixed! The fence is being put back into place. On the sidelines the work on the water storage tank has started along with linking pipes. The weather has delayed the painting of the lines but it is hoped hand over will be early next week.
These are major steps towards the resurfacing work. The work should be completed late August in time for the new season.
Sport Scotland have completed the grant application process and confirm the club will receive a grant of £70,000 towards the cost of the upgraded pitch surface. We need to continue to fund raise to complete financing of the pitch.
Our new fund raising target is £5,000.
The committee seek this funding to be raised over the next month. There are still pitch squares available and watch out for other fund raising events that you can help with in the near future.
If you can help with fund raising please contact one of our committee members.

Press Release 13/6/11
WORK has started on the upgrading of Clydesdale’s all-weather hockey pitch, to create a new international sports facility on the southside of Glasgow.
Following completion of preliminary tests required by Sportscotland, the club signed a contract with Fairways Sportsgrounds to carry out the work, which started last week with the removal of the 14-year-old sand-filled carpet.
The new surface will be a water-based carpet, the German Edelgrass Triple-T system, which is currently among the most favoured in international hockey circles.
Before the new carpet arrives, a water-irrigation system is to be installed to enable the surface to be dampened before each match – which enhances the speed of the ball. This will draw on the copious underground water courses beneath the Titwood facility, a green initiative that will save on the considerable costs of using a mains supply.
Sportscotland agreed to contribute £70,000 towards the £250,000+ cost of the significant upgrade, which is expected to become a central training venue for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
Remarkably, following 14 years of fund-raising, the club itself is financing the remainder of the costs of the capital project.
Project manager Frank Hirst, a former president of Clydesdale and father of two promising young hockey players at the club, said: “Our members have made a big effort over the past couple of years, raising well over £50,000 from sundry initiatives.
“Add to that our relentless collection of pitch and other rental income over the past decade and a half, and we are delighted to have got to this stage in straightened economic circumstances.”
Clydesdale’s Titwood ground is, of course, already an international cricket venue, which later this summer expects to stage three under-16 matches between Scotland and England.
The addition of an international hockey facility, the first in Scotland to be owned by a club, will make it a year-round focus for sport in the city.
The project is expected to be completed by late August, in time for the start of the new hockey season.
