It was yet another two good wins for the Ladies’ 2s last weekend as they beat Watsonians 2s and St. Andrews Uni 5-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Saturday’s league game against Watsonians started slowly with very few chances for either side, yet it was Gill Green who opened the scoring with a neat finish from close range. That proved to be the only goal of the half as the girls couldn’t put away the chances they were creating. The second half started much brighter as many corners were won and it was Lesley Cosh who scored the second by converting a rebound. The floodgates then opened as Rachel Morrison finished off some great attacking play for the third. The game continued in a similar manner as we continued to carve out an avalanche of chances. The fourth goal came from the newly established reverse stick specialist Mairead Corrigan with a snazzy reverse stick shot….. Katie Crawford completed the scoring with a fabulous top D strike. Another great win for the undefeated 2s.
Sunday’s Scottish Cup win was perhaps even sweeter as the 2s overcame National 2 team St Andrews Uni with only 10 players available. Despite obvious nerves the girls started on the front foot and didn’t seem phased by the numerical deficit. And it was half way through the first half that Sorcha Turner scored despite only being called up on the day! That was the only goal of the first half but every team member continued to contribute throughout the 2nd half and it proved to be worthwhile as Robyn Belch won the ball after great team pressure and neatly rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. A great team effort which puts the 2s into the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup along with the 1s.
