Post: Women’s WD return, L1s place 2nd, M2s run riot – Weekend Review – 11th/12th January

Clydesdale Western 1st XI completed their first round of games in Women’s National Indoor Division One with two wins at Dundee International Sports Centre on Sunday.

The L1s opened up their card of games at DISC with a 5-0 win against Watsonians 1s. All the scoring was done in the second half as Jen Eadie and Millie Steiger grabbed two goals each, whilst Margery Justice scored the other.

The same three players collected another two goals each in ‘Dale Western’s second game in a 9-1 win against Edinburgh University 1s. With Dundee Wanderers having won all of their games on Sunday as well, Clydesdale Western 1s finished 2nd in the league table after the first round of indoor matches.

The league will now be split into two Pools, with points collected against opposition in your respective Pool being carried over. The L1s will not be in the same Pool as Dundee Wanderers, having finished 2nd and 1st respectively. This will mean the Titwood girls will have nine points to their name and thus take top spot in their Pool before the next round of matches in Women’s National Indoor Division One.

Clydesdale Men’s 2s scored a sensational 41 goals to win all three games played at Perth College on Saturday, taking them to the top of Men’s Regional Indoor Division One.

Despite having made the trip to Perth without a goalkeeper, the Men’s 2s won 7-2 against Inverleith 3s in the day’s opening game. Game two saw the M2s win by the same margin but in an 11-6 scoreline.

And in the day’s final game, ‘Dale 2s managed to score five more than what they had recorded in their first two games – winning 23-5 against Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland 1s. There were goals aplenty for every member of Clydesdale Men’s 2s in the final game, but Christopher Richmond scored the most having collected nine goals to his name.

The M2s are now top with two games remaining, but having played two games more than three teams below.

Clydesdale Western 6s picked up arguably the result of the weekend from the returning West District representing teams after a hard fought draw against Women’s West District Division Three league leaders Greenock Morton 1s in absolutely treacherous conditions.

On a rainy and bitterly windy Saturday at Titwood, the L6s put in a gutsy and hardworking performance to hold Greenock Morton 1s to a 0-0 draw. The point takes ‘Dale Western 6s a place up into 8th in Women’s West District Division Three.

In the game immediately after, the L4s lost small ground on league leaders and champions Rottenrow 1s in Women’s West District Division One after a 1-1 draw with Ardrossan 1s.

Aaliyah Sandhu was the L4s goalscorer, but an even contest in exactly the same weather conditions as the L6s meant Marg Taylor’s side had to settle for a point. ‘Dale Western 4s are three points behind Rottenrow in the league table.

On Sunday, the L5s losing streak in the league extended to four games after losing at home to Argyle 1s in Women’s West District Division Two.

With the weather having improved from the day before, the L5s lost 3-1 to Argyle 1s to remain 9th in the league table. Rachel Brown was the home side’s sole goalscorer, which was her sixth goal of the 2019-20 season.
