Post: Weekend Preview – 4th November

Ten out of eleven teams play tomorrow which includes some big games.

L1s vs. Hillhead 1s (1.30pm, H); L2s vs. Edinburgh University 2s (2.30pm, A); L4s vs. Rottenrow 1s (3.00pm, HGS); L5s vs. Hillhead 4s (1.30pm, HGS); L6s vs. Ayr 2s (12.30pm, A)

M1s vs. Hillhead 1s (3.00pm, H); M2s vs. Watsonians 2s (2.30pm, A); M3s vs. Glasgow Accies 1s (12 noon, H); M4s vs. Kelburne 5s (4.30pm, H); M5s vs. Oban 1s (1.30pm, A)

The Ladies 1st XI take on Hillhead Ladies 1s at home, 1.30pm pushback.  Clydesdale Western 1s have passed through a tough round of fixtures in recent weeks.  And passing some of them with flying colours such as their 2-1 win against Western Wildcats a fortnight ago.  A win on Saturday could see the girls in 2nd place in the Women’s National Division One table, but they face a Hillhead side who have started the season well by their account.  Although this fixture has usually seen ‘Dale Western take the points, the girls can’t take anything for granted as proven when they drew to Watsonians a few weeks back.

The Men’s 1st team have a big game against Hillhead following the girls at home from 3.00pm.  The Men’s 1s have suffered back-to-back league defeats, which has seen the gap between themselves in 5th and the top four in the Men’s National Division One table increase.  More alarmingly, the gap between them and the teams below is decreasing, so a win against the west end visitors would be very welcoming.  It will not be easy however, as Hillhead 1’s look to have found some form, winning their last two league games after losing their first five.  As well as this, Clydesdale have, in recent times, struggled against Hillhead, so this will certainly be a big test for them before the season closes for the indoor break.

Both Men’s and Ladies 2nd XI’s have top of the table clashes in Edinburgh on Saturday.  The L2s face Edinburgh University 2s at Peffermill.  The L2s hold a three point lead over Uni 2s, so only a point is required to keep their lead at the top.  The M2s know only a win will take them above Watsonians 2s when the two meet at George Watson’s College.  The M2s sit second, only by goal difference, so a win here would be timely.  Both 2nd XI games pushback at 2.30pm.  The M3s are looking to bounce back from their humbling defeat to Ayr last weekend.  They face Glasgow Accies 1s at Titwood, noon start, with a number of key players such as David Christie, Craig Bradley and Colin Moulson returning.  The M4s, who sit top of West District Division 3, have a home game against Kelburne 5s, 4.30pm pushback.  A win as well as other results going their way could see the 4s with an 11 point lead by the end of the day.  The M5s take on Oban 1s at Lomond School from 1.30pm.  The L4s, L5s and L6s will be keen to return to winning ways after losing last weekend.  The L4s and L5s play at Hutchesons’ Grammar School against Rottenrow 1s (1.30pm PB) and Hillhead 4s (3.00pm PB) respectively.  The L6s are away to Ayr 2s from 12.30pm.

Good luck to the ten teams in action.  Afterwards, Clydesdale hosts its Fireworks Night, so make sure you’re down.  Bring your family and friends as well!
