Post: Clydesdale Western set for Vienna Voyage – EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy 2019

Clydesdale Western’s 1st XI Indoor team have arrived in Vienna, Austria to take part in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy, with their opening fixtures for the tournament taking place on Friday.

The girls will be hoping for positive results in their three Pool matches.  After their Pool matches, they will then play crossover matches against opposition from the other Pool, but this will be dependent on where ‘Dale Western are placed after their opening three matches.

The L1s are in Pool B and will play their first game at 11.20am (10.20am GMT) on Friday (15th February) against Croatian side, HAHK Mladost before playing the final game of Friday’s schedule against SK Slavia Prague of the Czech Republic.  ‘Dale Western will then play their third and final Pool game the following day at 11.20am (10.20am GMT) again against HF Lorenzoni Bra from Italy.  Their opponents in the crossover games could be any two of Pool A sides, Gintra Strekte Uni HC (Lithuania), Bowdon Hightown (England) or Austrian hosts, SV Arminen.

Clydesdale Western have picked nearly the same squad that represented in Scottish Hockey’s Indoor GALA Finals against Dundee Wanderers almost two weeks ago.  The only person who will not be involved is goalkeeper Jessica Buchanan, who suffered concussion during the defeat to Wanderers.  Buchanan has travelled to Vienna, but has been ruled out of involvement for ‘Dale Western in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy.  Taking her place in goals will be Head Coach, Wendy Justice, which means Team Manager, Peter Justice will assume responsibilities from the sideline during play.

Wendy Justice has played in goals before for ‘Dale Western, when she produced a stunning performance to help beat Edinburgh University in last season’s Play-Off Semi Final.

The squad itself, features a further eleven players, all of which have represented or still continue to represent Clydesdale Western from their school years.
