Indoor Youth Finals at the Kelvinhall 22 January 2006.

Juniors from Clydesdale and Glasgow Western Ladies took part in the West District Indoor Youth Finals on Sunday 22nd January.

The Finals were the culmination of a programme youth indoor hockey that had taken place over the winter months comprising a round robin tournament to select four teams from each age group to play Plate and Cup finals. The age groups ranged from under 10 to under 18.

The juniors from Titwood took part in the Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 Plate finals and the Under 16 Cup finals.

Pride of place went to the Under 16s who won the District Cup by defeating Kelburne 5-2 in the final. Many of the team had been playing earlier in the day for the first team and had driven down the road from Perth to take part in the showcase final. The boys dominated the game throughout on the very small Kelvin Hall pitch and progressed steadily to a 2-0 lead by half time. Chances for both teams were few are far between but Clydesdale were able to put relentless pressure on the ball and cause Kelburne turnovers and the lead grew to 5-0. As the clock ran out Kelburne were able to snatch two goals for their stout efforts.

The 'Dale team was Andrew Allan, Neil Fulton, Fraser Hirst, Stephen McKnight, Stuart Syme, and Ross Milligan (GK) with Gregor Hirst and Seoras Gaughan on the bench.

The day started with the Under 10 Plate Final. Clydesdale had failed to qualify for the Cup Finals by one goal an omission they were to put right very quickly in the Plate Finals against Eastwood "B". Calum McIntosh scored on Clydesdale's opening attack and more was to follow as a Gordon Amour hatrick was only interrupted by Megan McFarlane's contribution as Clydesdale raced to a 5-0 lead in as many minutes. Every outfield Clydesdale player managed to score at least two goals and the team ran out 16-1 winners.

The team was Gordon Amour, Harry Bremner, Mia Cruikshank (GK), Ewen Fielding, Caroline Henderson, Megan McFarlane and Calum McIntosh.

The under 10 Cup final between Ayr and Eastwood "A" went to penalties after a 2-2 draw with Eastwood eventually winning in sudden death flicks.

The Under 10s team formed the bulk of the Under 12 team who took on Uddingston in the Plate Final. Tired from their previous game the team were unable to stop Uddingston taking an early three-goal lead. Clydesdale rallied and Gordon Amour managed to score two goals but the Uddingston kicking back made some great saves. Uddingston were able to score on the break and despite Gordon Amour finishing his hatrick, Uddingston eventually won 10-3.

The team was Gordon Amour, Harry Bremner, Mia Cruikshank, Alison Eadie, Jennifer Eadie, Ewen Fielding, Jonathon Kilpatrick, Megan MacFarlane and Calum McIntosh,

The Under 12 Cup final was won by Greenock who comfortably defeated Kelburne.

The Under 14 Plate was a dramatic game. Clydesdale were playing Ayr and early on fell two goals behind despite having equity in terms of possession. Gregor Hirst began to direct traffic from midfield and link well with Kate Fulton and Kirsten McIntosh up front. Seoras Gaughan and Emma Hunter began to read and thwart the Ayr attacks in defence. Clydesdale began to dominate and Gregor started to score but still Clydesdale were behind. Half way through the second half a penalty flick was won and Gregor remained cool to slot it past the Ayr goalie, Clydesdale were only one behind. It remained 5-4 to Ayr going into the final minute, Katie Fulton made a run forward and was tacked but the ball broke to David Henderson who was able to round the keeper to score. 5-5 with 40 seconds left. Ayr pressed forward but lost the ball to Seoras, the ball was moved quickly through Gregor and on to Kate who was rudely stopped by the Ayr 'keeper. The umpired appeared to be about to award another flick when Gregor ran onto the loose ball and tucked it away for 6-5 right on the stroke of full time. This was a cruel blow to the Ayr team who themselves and played some great hockey in a very entertaining game. Gregor took the man of the match accolade with an impressive total of four goals.

The team was Gregor Hirst, Seoras Gaughan, Katie Fulton, Kirsten McIntosh, Emma Hunter, Ailsa Doig, Colin Ogilvie and David Henderson.

The Under 14 Cup final was won convincingly by Kelburne against Greenock.

The Under 18 plate final saw Hillhead defeat Stepps in a one sided game and in the under 18 Cup Final Kelburne comfortably defeated Greenock. The Greenock team was missing their best players to national league games and two Clydesdale boys played to help out. Ciaran Crawford and Hok Yee Sui played their hearts out in a hard game against and experienced Kelburne team which included starlet Kenny Bain.
